I found out that my family and our friends are nothing but a bunch of turkeys, REALLY! You are probably wondering where I'm going with this so keep reading it's kinda funny!
I realized this turkey business at the Great Darke County Fair, Sat. evening. We went to the fair with some friends, and after a few hours of walking around, we pulled over to rest at the Ohio Center. (the Ohio center is a cement slab used as a stage with a roof, and bleacher seats around three sides for sitting.) It's used for entertaining and for resting. Anyway, most of the seats were full so we sat off to the side on the edge of the cement at the back to eat and take a break. Little did we know that the "Human Rooster Crowing Contest" was taking place with several adults striving to give their best crow. Then Shaun pointed out my thirty-something yr.old cousin competing for the title. (hi Matt!) it's Matt Godown in case you know him. We laughed...and laughed harder when he was declared winner with an 18" trophy to take to his wife!
Then a man approached us and asked if any kids ages 3-8 would like to participate in the "Human Turkey Calling Contest" Noah (completely out of character) said "i do!" Noah is a very literal child, very serious. Doesn't like pretending. He's intuitive, and gives me a run for my money with brain power. (respectively, like his father!) Then Gabe and Erin said they would do it too. Vaughn went up on stage, but didn't produce a "Gobble" which was good because he's only 2 1/2. To make a long story a little shorter, out of approximately 5 kids our little Noah came home with the trophy and little Erin bringing home a second place ribbon! Shaun got a picture of all 3 together.

Thanks Cooper Farms for a little family fun, and for proving that our family is really a bunch of turkeys!
Now we are using this experience to try to teach Noah and Vaughn that our "true trophy" is Jesus, and being with Him for all eternity. Parenting is soooooo hard with the world being so enticing to our little ones. But they are God's children, not ours.
Here is the last picture that i took with the kids walking around together. I'm sure in about 10-15 yrs. it will be a complete embarrassment to them, but it is so cute!

Who are these friends of yours anyways? Their kids are really cute! :)
Way to turn the trophy thing into a spiritual lesson. I was thinking about "The Old Rugged Cross" and the lyrics, "till my trophies at last I lay down" and using that to try to teach them that the "trophy" isn't really important at all.
hilarious! I think we might know these turkey-gobbling friends of yours! ;)
I could have told you that your kids were ALL turkeys, long before the fair! ;)
so, do they get their talent from their mom or their dad?????
Dee~ Shaun says from their father! He's the biggest turkey around! (Matt, of course!)
Concerning Noah, i feel it's also from his father...
No harm intended, Kati ;)
Part of the reason I married Matt was the fact that he was part turkey!
One more thing--last evening we informed Erin that we thought the garbage man needed a trophy for all his hard work collecting our trash every Thursday morning. We let her keep the little figure from the top of the trophy, the rest had to go. (But I'll bet we have one happy garbage man!)
Turkeys!! lol. Hope you guys are all doing OK.
